Noticed By Their Absence
Only platforms with helpful and believable statistics are included. Some of you will notice the streaming platforms that are missing from this list: BandCamp, Apple Music, Tidal, YouTube, and Pandora made the cut.
More importantly, thank you to every one of you who listened this year to the music I created. I am so grateful to you. And I always welcome your feedback. Thank you. (BTW – have a beautiful holiday season and a bright-as-possible start to the new year!)
BandCamp 2024
There are many reasons that BandCamp still is interesting to me. The buyouts and bad business practices continue to be very concerning. But they are among the most mature platforms for direct download/purchase of tracks and community-building.
“Greener Grass” was one of the extended (longer than 4 minutes) meditative tracks I created over the past two years. This particular instrumental was in the ninth spot for BandCamp listeners.
One of the great things about BandCamp is the little surprises. One of the surprising things is how much you listeners are interested in tracks from previous releases. In 2017, I released my first singer-songwriter album, “Dream This”. Though I had performed many of these dozens of times prior to this release, this was my first album entirely made of songs. “Dance This” featuring my spouse on improv and other vocals was in slot 8.
But wait: There’s more!
“New Magic” saw a burst of streams in 2024. It’s my holiday song from a few years ago. Sadly, its message is needed more than ever as is illustrated by it rising to number six in this top ten.
Bandura and Sopilka was my ode to the Ukraine. Sadly, they are still in a terrible war with Russia years later. Sales of this song continue to benefit aid organizations. Thanks for listening and pushing this to number three on the year’s top ten.
There was a lot of interest in my album “Synth Kraze” during this year. And that’s in spite of it being released two years ago. Thanks for your interest everyone! The tracks “Gitch U Goin'” (10), “This Is Not Love” (4), and “Syn the Sighs” (2) all made the top ten.
When I broke my ankle in January of 2024, I was very concerned about how much I’d be able to record. As with so many life experiences, the healing process is very inspiring. So I turned that inspiration to an album: “Healing Melodies”. Three of these tracks that made it into the top 10 for BandCamp, including “Healing Inergy” at the top position!
Apple Music
While Spotify says that I only have a couple of handfuls of tracks that meet their requirement for royalty payments, Apple Music lists dozens that passed the 1,000 mark this year. And that mark is not on their requirement list. Even at that, Apple notes these as the top streamed tracks for 2024.

Tidal finds its own in 2024
There’s a new(ish) kid on the block. Tidal streaming service is picking up subscribers. And they’ve improved their artist support tools significantly. Let’s hope that continues.

A few of my musical friends refuse to use a product (such as YouTube) that’s part of Google. I certainly can understand why.

Pandora may not have a player that’s easy to embed in a website. But their other artist tools are among the best. And clearly, lots of listeners use this (USA-only) streaming service. Thanks for listening!
