Winter Sunrise By Ryan McGuire

first light – an #improv #poem

Like drones rising up
We are eager to catch first light.
It’s Winter, so the catching
Is not too difficult;

Though it may be hard:
Stiff and inflexible like
The frozen melt on top
Of old snow.

We tramp through anyway.
The reward will be sunrise.
There is nothing else in
All of the goodness of

Creation can compare to the sun
Rising like a painter’s
Brush cresting the horizon
And painting languid,

Luxurious, and enlivened
Hues briskly across the
Sky. Then, just as quickly
and beautifully as she starts,

The painting is done and
Wafts away in the wind,
Ready with a new palette
For the next day and the next.

  1. That’s really beautiful! I find it and shared it to my FB. I have always loved the first moments of a new day. It’s such a special time and fills me with good energy.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing it, Melissa! Yes, early morning is one of my favorite times. Not everyone appreciates it the way we do. 🙂
