Beyond a dry, grassy field are tall, rocky pillars and hills with a snow-capped mountain beyond them. The sky is mostly full of wispy clouds and jet trails. It's mid-winter in the Columbia Gorge.

Photos From My Mid-Winter – #winter #beauty

Mid-winter can be pure doldrums. Gray and boring.

End ice

In the foreground are twisted, thorny bushes. Beyond them is a dry meadow, rocky hills, and in the distance a snow-capped mountain.

No. I reject that. Ice goes on forever.1 The cold of mid-winter is just a contrast. You decide what it’s a contrast to for you.

For me, winter is wonderful and inspiring. Its starkness mimics honesty and its beauty is unsurpassed. Sadly, the warming weather of our world provides less of these magnificent contrasts and snow decorations that used to signify mid-winter.

Mid-Winter Love

A wide river is bounded on both sides by rocky hills.

I visited my family who live near the Columbia Gorge in Oregon, USA. Mount Adams, Hood, and others rise with majesty above the surrounding regions. They are spires in the mid-winter church of the world.

Beyond dry, grassy meadows is a pointed, snow-capped mountain. Even at mid-winter, Mount Hood is fully covered in snow.
A dirt road is on the left side of grassy fields. Beyond them is a snow-capped mountain under a sunset lit gray cloud-cover.

Due to their locale, my family mostly sees and visits Mount Hood. It is an imposing mountain that seems to me to always be covered in colorless snow. It’s astounding.

It’s also a stretch for me to believe how long it’s been since I moved my parents to this area. That was such an adventure. You can read about it here.

Love In The Distance

In the foreground is a birch tree with no foliage. Beyond it is a white capped waterfall. It's mid-winter in the Finger Lakes.

Traveling reminds me of how much I love where I live. Mid-summer or mid-winter in the Finger Lakes is a sight to behold. And I am always glad to behold it.

These photos were captured on a 9-mile hike of Taughannock State Park in early January. May we always have ample amounts of snow and ice to inspire us.2

Out beyond a stone overlook is a tall waterfall, crashing down a gray rocky cliff. As if framing the waterfall, there are leafless and evergreen trees on both sides of the foreground.
Mid-winter wonders in the Finger Lakes.
  1. ICE does not go on forever, nor should it. ↩︎
  2. And may ICE melt away. ↩︎
