Poem 0153: birthday 8 (smile)

Twelve times today
I felt like it was the eleventh hour.
I could barely take a tenth
Of all the stuff that was coming my way.

My nine lives had to make it through
The eight hours of what feels like
Seven days a week — though I know
It’s usually only six.

I only needed a word with five letters;
Well, actually, I needed the meaning and
Especially the vision behind them.
Today, I only saw the real thing four times

And that was not enough. So, I give you
Three words, wanting to see if only for
A second, the one thing that will buoy me
Up: your smile.

  1. Loved this clever and light & playful take on a day that sounded very tense & heavy. Truly brilliant and conveys so much emotion.
