It’s one thing to put together a band. It’s another to put together two of them for the same project.
Band One
John M. Davis is the reigning champion of creating a band for music projects. He has turned this process into a science. One of my experiments with this approach was “Mystery and Hope”.
I have plenty of albums or suites that include a number of bands. For example, DreamState: Awakening and Pure Movement have a new band for each song. No such luck this time. I have two bands and I’m sticking with both of them throughout this project.
The first band is a piano quartet. If you’re not familiar with this 4-piece ensemble, it is always a piano and three other instruments. As is most common in Classical music, I’ve chosen violin, viola, and cello for these 3 others.
Band Two
Now, imagine that it’s time to match up another band with the piano quartet. Would you think of woodwinds? or brass? or maybe an orchestral percussion ensemble? Well, maybe. But not this time.
Instead, I’ve chosen a rock band: drum kit, electric bass, rhythm guitar (doubles on acoustic, steel-stringed guitar), and lead guitar. And they are really rockin’.
I’m enjoying this contrast and hope that soon, you will, too. Get ready…

A rock band. This will be very exciting. You always seem to embrace so many genres with such enthusiasm. Looking forward to hearing your songs and sounds in this new approach. All the best Stan.
