Sharing Independent Music and Community

Community is cool. Maybe it’s just what the world needs.

I can’t claim to be everything for everyone here at muz4now. But I will start to share the music of other independent artists more regularly. Here’s the backstory.

When the skies are blue

I joined a social network named BlueSky not too long ago. Like the federated social networks, bsky.app does not incorporate commercial (paid) advertising or the kinds of sponsorships that have made networks like Twitter/X and Facebook so toxic.

It’s still taking shape, but BlueSky seems to have a lot going for it. They keep adding features and the huge influx of accounts means that they are among the larger socials in a very short time.

Most importantly, I’ve experienced more sense of community there than I had encountered for many years. The interwebs are made up of human beings, so we will often disagree. But we can find common threads and share those.

Gotta Share Somewhere

One of the cool features of BlueSky is called a Starter Pack. Users can have many of them. Each pack has up to 150 accounts included in each one.

Typically, the Starter Packs have a theme: writers, artists, storytellers, musicians, and so on. Some are just “people I like” or more general. But all of them allow people to share the folks we think others might want to interact with.

Get to the good stuff

The point of all this is that I have a curated (chosen by me for a variety of reasons) Starter Pack for unsigned musicians. I’m going to start sharing tracks or albums from some of these awesome folk. My goal will be to do one per month this year and then see how it goes.

My approach will be sort of a review. But the main intention is sharing. After all, that’s what community does.

I look forward to seeing what happens. Hoping you’ll stop back and be part of the fun.

  1. I love this, Stan! I have only visited bluesky a handful of times. I’ll take a closer look now. As you know, I’m a big fan of sharing and celebrating music from independent artists. I look forward to seeing/hearing which music you share.
