Poem 0159: what’s in a name?

I once changed my name.
It was momentous and mundane
At the same time.

Now, I apparently need another
New identity. Someone
I have never even met is saying
I must change or suffer the consequences.

What once was so important
Becomes suddenly superfluous;
And not by a direct choice,
But one that I am buying into
In order to avoid the distractions
Of caring too much about what's in a name.

So, stranger, thank you for the invitation:
I accept.
