Summer brings a kind of warmth
That is not alway kind.
It overheats the bodies of the child and the aged.
It invites unclothed bodies to worship the Sun,
Unprotected; to be regretted later on.
I watch our dog seeking the cool, refreshing
Drink of water and the pressing of his body
Against the tiles of the shaded floor.
Life seems full of extremes:
Heat and cool;
Joy and anger;
Love and fear;
Deadlines and taking time;
Deep presence and dazed distraction.
And it seems that the more accepting
I am of each end of these spectrums,
The more content I find myself to be.
