smudge – a poem

There, high above the reach of any human hand,
Is a fingerprint smudge; visible to us now that
The light is sidelong to the window and flickeringly
Just so.

Let’s not ask the obvious question in case it would
Embarrass either of us: questioner or lack-of-answerer.
