#Poem – gift

Being unemployed has several side-effects:

Reduced income, eating away at money saved up
For other purposes, and most of all — time on my hands.

I kept seeing the time on my hands as a mystery to
Be delved into and decided upon.

Now, I realize that it is a simple gift.
I had seen the gift of time to be introspective, to embrace my

Own creativity and craft, to develop skills,
To reinvent myself, define my vocation and search for a job.

The one I missed until yesterday was the gift of extended
Moments to dream, talk, make love, work, walk, rest,

And be with you.
